Climbing Kilimanjaro Price Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions About Climbing Kilimanjaro Prices
These answers explain our scheduled group climbing Kilimanjaro prices, included services, route differences, group sizes, booking arrangements and optional extras. They will help you understand the total climbing Kilimanjaro cost before reserving your place.
How much does climbing Kilimanjaro cost with a group?
Our 2026 group prices are US$2 210 per person for the 7-day Machame Route and US$2 580 per person for the 8-day Lemosho Route. The 2027 prices are US$2 331 for Machame and US$2 673 for Lemosho.
Prices are quoted in US Dollars per person sharing. Optional upgrades, gear rental, crew tips, flights, visas and insurance are separate.
Why are group climbing Kilimanjaro prices lower than private climbs?
Hikers on a scheduled departure share selected transport, crew, camping and operational costs. This reduces the climbing Kilimanjaro cost per person without reducing the core guide support, meals, equipment or mountain safety systems.
A private climb is more expensive because your group has a dedicated crew, flexible dates and greater control over the daily arrangements.
What is included in the group climbing Kilimanjaro cost?
Core inclusions cover Kilimanjaro National Park fees, pre- and post-climb hotel accommodation in Moshi, group park transfers, certified guides, porters, a mountain cook, meals, boiled drinking water, camping equipment, emergency oxygen, first-aid equipment and twice-daily health checks.
A shared portable toilet is also included on tented group routes. Your written quotation will confirm the complete inclusion list.
Are Kilimanjaro National Park fees included?
Yes. The applicable conservation, entry, camping, rescue and crew-related National Park fees are included in the listed climbing Kilimanjaro price.
Park fees represent one of the largest parts of the total Kilimanjaro cost and increase when an itinerary includes more mountain days.
Which group route offers the best value?
The 7-day Machame Route normally offers the best overall value. It combines a scenic itinerary, good acclimatisation and a lower price than the longer Lemosho option.
The best route is not always the cheapest route. Your fitness, experience and acclimatisation needs should also guide the decision.
Why does the 8-day Lemosho Route cost more?
The 8-day Lemosho Route includes one additional mountain day. This increases park fees, crew wages and meal costs.
The extra day also provides more time to acclimatise, while Lemosho offers a quieter western approach and outstanding scenery.
Can I join a Kilimanjaro group climb alone?
Yes. Solo hikers are welcome on every scheduled departure. Many people join alone and meet their fellow hikers in Moshi before the climb.
Solo hikers pay a single supplement that covers a private tent on the mountain and a single room at the hotel before and after the climb.
How many hikers are in each group?
We limit scheduled groups to a maximum of 12 hikers. The average group size is approximately four to five hikers.
Smaller groups allow guides to provide more personal attention and make daily camp and health procedures easier to manage.
Are scheduled group departures guaranteed?
Yes. The departures published on our group hike schedule are guaranteed to operate, helping you plan flights and leave arrangements with confidence.
Availability can still change as places are booked, so reserve early when you have fixed travel dates.
Is a portable toilet included in the group price?
Yes. One shared portable toilet is supplied at no additional charge on scheduled group climbs using tented routes.
Portable toilets are not applicable to the Marangu Route because hikers use mountain huts and shared campsite facilities.
Are airport transfers included?
Airport transfers are not included unless specifically stated in your quotation.
We can arrange transfers between Kilimanjaro International Airport and your hotel in Moshi.
Are crew tips included in the price?
No. Tips for guides, cooks and porters are paid separately after the climb. We provide tipping guidance before departure so the group can plan and manage gratuities transparently.
Tipping remains separate from crew wages and the responsible porter standards monitored through KPAP and KRTO.
Can I rent Kilimanjaro gear instead of buying it?
Yes. Hikers booked with Kilimanjaro Hiking Tours can rent selected equipment, subject to availability and advance reservation.
View the current Kilimanjaro gear rental rates and reserve required items before arriving in Moshi.
Can I add comfort upgrades to a group climb?
Yes. Selected upgrades can be added without changing your route or group itinerary. Options may include a thicker inflatable mattress, folding camp bed, single tent or personal assistance porter.
See our Kilimanjaro comfort upgrades for current options and prices.
Do children receive discounted group prices?
We offer discounted rates for children aged 15 and under. The final price depends on the selected route, departure and family arrangements.
Contact us with each child’s age and your preferred dates so we can confirm the discount and advise on route suitability.
When should I reserve my group climb?
Book several months in advance when possible, especially for popular dry-season dates, full-moon periods and fixed international travel plans.
Early booking provides more choice of departure dates, hotel arrangements, equipment rental and optional upgrades.
